General Studio Policies & Etiquette

There is an expected level of etiquette that is inherent in learning the performing arts. It is a how we build a safe and positive environment in which students can flourish! Remember that we care deeply about what we do and when there are bumps along the way, we work with students, parents and caregivers to provide a solution and path forward. 

1. Students, parents & staff are to address each other in a polite manner, especially when there is an issue or concern that may cause frustration or miscommunication that needs to be discussed in a calm and professional demeanor.

2. NO cell phones, NO Apple/Smartwatches in the studio and NO texting during classes (Youth classes: mini stars, little stars, junior, intermediate & senior).

3. Students need to wear the prescribed dress code including long hair in a bun, or styled up and away from the face. No dangly jewellery such as necklaces, bracelets, earrings. Acro students should remove their wrist watches and jewellery. 

4. Dress code includes the appropriate footwear. NO outdoor shoes or footwear in the studios, including parents and caregivers.

5. Students can bring a water bottle into class. No other food or drink, thank you. Do not chew gum in class.

6. Lobby etiquette includes: NO horseplay or running around, quiet activities only; NO loud/lengthy cellphone conversations; USE headphones for videos or video games; CONSIDER the topic of conversation and if it is appropriate for the public nature of the lobby and remember that Sound in Motion is an inclusive space and does not tolerate hate speech, derogatory comments or offensive language.  

7. Do NOT film or photograph students through the viewing windows or closed video monitoring.

8. Class fees need to be paid and accounts need to be up to date for students to be permitted to participate in lessons, activities or performances at Sound in Motion.  Monthly fees are due on the 1st of each month.

9. Students, parents or caregivers who are rude, disruptive, unkind or aggressive with staff, students or other Sound in Motion community members will be removed from classes or events at Sound in Motion. 

10. Students, parents or caregivers who appear to be intoxicated while at the studio, event or performance will be asked to leave and law enforcement will be notified.
