Avery Brown

012.jpgAvery Brown discovered his passion for music and performance as a young boy singing in many of the great cathedrals of England during two choir-in-residence tours. He received extensive piano and vocal training in classical, jazz and contemporary styles in Calgary and attended the inaugural Jazz Performance program at Mount Royal College on a full scholarship. This training has served him well as musical director and composer for more than 50 professional plays in theatres across Canada and Europe.

Some of Avery's favourites include Rocky Horror Picture Show, Billy Bishop Goes to War, Of Two Minds and Cabaret. Avery has been the recipient of multiple awards and honours including the Critics' Favourite New Play List at the 2006 Prague Fringe Festival and the People's Choice Award for Canada’s "Bravo! Dance on Film” series. In 2009, Avery was awarded a music production grant from the Alberta Foundation for the Arts to record his original compositions for a new musical Tragic Animal Stories.

Avery spent six summers in Dawson City, Yukon as the musical director and pianist at the world famous Diamond Tooth Gertie’s Saloon. Avery has taken his professional experience and integrated it into his instruction for children and adults. He has taught and directed at Kidco Dance in Victoria, British Columbia and at the Chinook School of Music in Calgary, Alberta. Avery believes that the focus and awareness that come with practice and performance creates a more rounded and successful individual. He is thrilled to be a part of the vibrant arts community in London, Ontario.
